Just moments before the big first try of solid food!! She was excited, we were excited.

It was fun, and all three of us loved the sweet potato fries (bakes?).
I find that I have so so many pictures of Chickee eating - probably because she is so mobile now that it is hard to take pictures of her otherwise! At least this way she's tied down and too distracted to worry about trying to swipe the camera off me! She is getting better and better about getting things down her throat, though to be honest it's still not very much. Here are some highlights of the last month of so:

She loves to take my spoon away from me. I've tried to direct it toward putting things in her mouth, but she mostly just likes to chew on it and wipe things into her hair. I have bought her her own spoons, but she likes the big one better. She will eat from a spoon, with me holding it and her direction.

Kiwi was a big hit from early on, but isn't as exciting lately as it used to be. For the record, the dried seeds in hair look disturbingly like ticks.

It is harder and harder to keep anything away from her. Makes us realize how much junk gets eaten around here when we aren't able to share with her.

Broccoli!!!!

Chicken is a big favorite too. She is getting better and better about working it around in her mouth.

Tried some baby food just in case she really liked it. This was blueberry apple or something like that. I ate about half of it. I wanted to see if she would get the hang of licking it off her fingers, but I suppose she would need more practice. Unfortunately I don't like cleaning enough to give her this practice often.

She also likes to chew away on a whole apple. She can get a surprising amount out with just her gums. It also seems to have helped her two teeth come out! On the 14th after 20 minutes of working away at an apple one tooth was through!
The next are a series of kiwi eating. I love her expressions!! So, I had to put them all in:

Notice the banana on her chin here: Banana is tasty, but so much of it ends up on my clothes somehow. I've read that it helps to teach them to eat it while it's halfway unpeeled, but she just doesn't give up on trying to eat the peel and I worry about chemicals on it.

That is grated apple by the way, which goes down pretty well.

Avocado. She doesn't like it as much as I do, but she accepts it. I eat most of it. I justify the overeating of avocado by thinking about how much good nutrition is going into the breast milk. Right.
I made burritos that I could share with her by just pureeing kidney beans with baby spinach. The spinach mixed right in. With mashed avocado it was pretty good! I gave it to her on a tortilla which she used as a utensil for eating the insides. It quickly went over the side.

There was, um, evidence that a lot of this meal went down.

So, enough eating pictures to last you awhile? I will probably get more tired of this soon, and not take as many photos. Or, and this is my hope, she will get better and better at just eating with us and then I will be too busy eating my own food. One can dream.
